With the exponential growth of youth beach volleyball over the past few years, it is amazing there are still very few options when it comes to organized, structured beach volleyball training and development programs. At VB RAGS, we strongly believe the growth of the sport will depend almost exclusively on the ability to grow the number of players at the junior level. Introducing them to the game at an early age, and teaching them the correct way to play beach volleyball, from introduction, all the way to the most advanced, high-performance level, is the basis of our program. Our first task was to assemble a highly qualified, professional staff, all bilingual. Among them, two former Beach Volleyball Olympians, a past AVP Rookie of the Year, a couple of pioneers of the FIVB Tour, a Puerto Rico national beach champion, and an excellent instructor who hails from a well known San Diego beach volleyball family. As if this wasn’t enough, our curriculum was developed with the help of one of the world’s best, and definitely the most technically-focused beach volleyball coach, Dane Selznick. Dane coached Kerry Walsh and Misty May to an Olympic Gold Medal in Athens, and to an incredible list of domestic and international beach titles over a period of several years. The curriculum breaks down each aspect of the game, from the fundamentals, all the way to the most complex mechanisms that make you or break you on the beach volleyball court. We injected plenty of discipline…and a truckload of FUN, to make it, above all, an enjoyable experience because that is how people best learn. Every year, we hold our Summer Camp on the week prior to our VB Rags/AAU Americas’ Challenge & The VB Rags Puerto Rico Open. This allows players from Canada, the US, and other countries the opportunity to train in between these two important youth tournaments. The VB RAGS Beach Volleyball Academy’s Summer Camp is a great way to spend a beach volleyball week full of fierce competition, great technical training, amazing cultural experiences, and lots of fun, all in a tropical paradise called Puerto Rico.
